12 Traditional Celebrations in Azerbaijan

One of the most important traditional celebrations in Azerbaijan is Novruz (also spelled Nowruz, Nawruz, or Nevruz), a spring equinox festival.  The New Year, according to ancient solar calendars, is deeply rooted in Zoroastrianism and Persian culture. UNESCO declared Novruz an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009. The UN General Assembly proclaimed March 21 as International Nowruz Day in 2010, recognizing its role in promoting peace, dialogue, and cultural diversity.
